Nintendo Ordered By Court To Pay USD $21 Million For Patent Infringement

Texas-based Anascape Ltd. is about to get $21 million richer, as Nintendo has been ordered by a federal jury to pay the company for patent infringement.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2006, and stated that Nintendo infringed on Anascape’s patent during the designing of the Wii Classic, GameCube and Wavebird controllers. The Nunchuck and Wii Remote were not mentioned in the suit, says Nintendo spokesman Charlie Scibetta.

Interestingly enough, Anascape also sued Microsoft for infringements before the Nintendo trial, but reached an agreement earlier this month.

Kojima’s Next Project: Zone Of The Enders?

Now that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has finally been completed, Kojima is looking forward to creating new videogame series as well as continuing existing ones, such as Zone of the Enders.

The fast-paced mecha fighting series for the PlayStation 2 launched in Spring 2001, and was met with average reception at best. It is widely considered to be one of the PS2’s most underrated games, and has gained its own cult-fanbase across the world.

In an interview with PSM UK, Kojima stated that he “would like to say that Zone of the Enders is quite near the priority list… [after MGS4] it might be good to change to outer space or robots or things like that for a change”

We can only hope.

The Force Unleashed Best SW Game Yet?

In a recent intervew, the producer of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed claims the game is the greatest Star Wars title ever created.

Speaking at an Activision & LucasArts event in London last week, the producer (Cameron Suey) said the game, in his opinion, features the greatest storyline of any previous Star Wars title.

“I’m a humble guy so I try not to use a lot of hyperbole, but it’s certainly the greatest Star Wars story that we’ve ever told in a videogame. I absolutely love the gameplay. This is the first game I’ve worked on, in about four years in the industry, in which I still love the game even a year-and-a-half after I’ve been playing it a little bit every day.”

He goes on to say that usually when you work so close to a game, you end up getting sick and fed up of it, and eventually you never want to see it again once it has been completed. However this was not the case with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

VideoGamer.com asked Suey if the game was the greatest Star Wars title ever made, re replied: “You know what, I’ll say it, it’s for me, and greatest applies to value judgement and opinion, it’s definitely the greatest Star Wars game. I’m of course biased!”

New Prince Of Persia Not For Wii?

The recently announced ‘next-gen’ Prince of Persia title has been confirmed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS, but sadly not the Wii.

In a recent interview, developer Ubisoft says the game will never be ported to the Nintendo console. But that doesn’t mean Wii owners isn’t getting anything. Speaking to Edge magazine this week, Ubisoft explained:

“We ported Two Thrones to the Wii. It was a quick and dirty port, i can say. With that we saw a lot of potential. The controls were not fully optimised, did not take full advantage of the Wii, but a lot of people saw the POP universe could certainly have a home on Wii.”

IGN Reviews The Nyko Kama

May 5th, 2008 - Jak Cadden | No Comments »

I remember hearing about the Kama a while back, but I never followed up on it. The Kama is basically a wireless version of the Wiimote’s Nunchuck. Nintendo said they that were going to develop the same thing, but for all I know that was just a baseless idea. IGN finally got their hands on the final product and have mostly good things to say about the Kama while giving it an overall score of 9.4.

Aside from being wireless, the main differences are that it’s a little bit bigger and the plastic is not textured the same as Nintendo’s Nunchuck. Other than that, it works perfectly. You insert it’s accompanying receiver into the the Wiimote like you would the wired Nunchuck, turn it on and start playing. It takes two AAA batteries which should give you about thirty or so hours of power. One draw back is the price which is about $35.  That’s almost as much as a Wiimote itself. So if you were looking to have four complete sets of wireless controllers, that’s will set you back quite a bit. You could buy another Wii with that much money.

ESRB Lists Earthbound On Wii

May 2nd, 2008 - Jak Cadden | No Comments »

ESRB has recently classified the fourteen year old Super Nintendo RPG EarthBound as a title for the Wii. This means the game coming to the Virtual Console. Eventually.

It would be nice if Nintendo brought the whole Mother trilogy to the Virtual Console, but that is extremely wishful thinking. On second thought, that’s borderline impossible.

The first scans with images from the next installment of Prince of Persia surfaced the Web earlier this week, revealing a new art style for the series.

It seems Ubisoft is attempting to mix several different styles, with influences from Assassin’s Creed and a more serious take on cel-shading (Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy).

Well it certainly looks intriguing, now we have to wait for some HQ screenshots to show up. Keep an eye on the official website for some new media.
