Five developers have stepped up to the plate to bring Japan what could potentially be one of the best cross over games to date, Cross Edge. We reported earlier with some scans but now some details are available for the rest of us not able to read Japanese. Similar to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, this game will feature worlds based on Disgaea and Dark Stalkers to name a pair. This game is currently slated only for a Japanese PS3 release but with the popularity of games like Kingdom Hearts, we may not be far from hearing a US release schedule.

In even more Famitsu news, the magazine has published three new scans containing screenshots and some non-translated details from SEGA’s upcoming RPG for the DS.
With the game’s scenario written by Masato Kato (FFVII, Chrono Cross, Xenogears), and a score by famed composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Xenogears, Chrono Chross), I have high expectations for this game.

Today Square Enix announced the birth of a brand new RPG for mobile phones, called ELLARK.
The official website has already launched, but sadly no specific details or information on the game have been revealed. It is scheduled for a mid-June release this year.

I remember reading about Opoona a while back, almost a year ago to be exact. Opoona is Koei’s Wii exclusive RPG. This game is, what one would call, obnoxiously cute. I may be absent minded but I can’t think of any traditional RPGs that are on the market for the Wii today. Is this the first? It certainly does seem to follow other successful Wii games by attempting to cater to a broad audience, at least aesthetically.

Developer Nobilis has released new details on the upcoming PC RPG Hard To Be A God, set to release on April 11th.
The game features a non-linear storyline, presenting multiple story branches with four endings, depending on the behavior of the main character in-game. In addition to this, all weapons, armor, items and even wounds will be shown on the character models, thanks to the 3D engine.

This morning Square Enix’s Research & Development Manager Taku Murata revealed that his company’s game engine has been renamed from the White Engine to Crystal Tools.
Murata-san announced this during his lecture at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and stated that the Crystal Tools engine will be used by Square for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC development.
He also vaguely hinted that it could be used for Wii titles in the future.

CD Projekt announced this week that their PC title The Witcher has sold over 600,000 copies worldwide, since its release three months ago.

“We are very happy with The Witcher’s performance to date. Our goal was — and still is — to reach one million copies sold during the first year. 600,000 games sold in just three months brings us much closer to this ambitious goal,†said CD Projekt CEO, Adam Kiciński.
