It was reported a few days ago that Pegatron Technology received some orders from Microsoft for an Xbox 360 SKU equipped with a Blu-ray drive. Gamepro reports that Microsoft sent them an email firmly denying it requested such an order.
“As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360,” said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday. “Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available.”

The latest Kotaku feature article offers some interesting commentary on the large amount of rumors surrounding Microsoft’s alleged version of the Wiimote for the Xbox 360.
“There’s absolutely no truth to the rumors, and I have no idea where they’re coming from,” said a genuinely perplexed-sounding Zac Rivera, the PR rep for Movea Inc., the company that purchased Gyration in January 2008. He added, “Gyration is working on some game-related projects, but it won’t be announced until later this year, and it is not related to the Xbox 360.”

We’ve known about Peter Jackson’s Halo project for quite some time now, but as of late there has been little or no new information.
However MTV Multiplayer is now reporting that Microsoft is hiring people for the project this week, according to recently published job listings for a team assigned to “help develop a new experience in the Halo universe.”
These listings state that the team will get to work on the project with an “external luminary”, a person suspected to be Peter Jackson. Hopefully this will turn out to be more than a mere rumour.

Microsoft today revealed plans to distribute hundreds of Xbox 360 kiosks to children’s hospitals across the United States. The company says that they basically aim to cheer up the sick kids.
The first lucky hospitals to receive these Xbox 360 kiosks will be the Orange County Children’s Hospital, Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and Regional Medical Center of Seattle.
Microsoft is doing this for no profit in return, and has partnered up with an organization called Companions in Courage Foundation.

Following closely behind at #3, is Polyphony’s Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. While no detailed sales figures have been released so far, we’re guessing the title has moved bucketloads of units.

Analyst firm Pacific Crest Securities believes that in just two years from now, Microsoft and Nintendo will be launching new gaming consoles.
“We believe that peak industry sales will occur in 2010, given that Microsoft will likely introduce its next console that year and Nintendo will likely launch before then,” said Evan Wilson in a GameIndustry.biz article.
The analyst firm also mentioned that the highly popular Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable will reach the end of their life cycles at the same time as the consoles, and will be replaced with new handhelds.

GamePro magazine predicts that Microsoft will buy the fast-growing game developer Epic Games.
“Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer,” wrote GamePro assistant editor, Travis Moses in the latest issue of the magazine.

It’s a bit early to draw conclusions as to whether or not this is true, but it wouldn’t be *that* far-fetched, as Microsoft’s game publisher division already paid Epic millions of dollars for developing the multi-award-winning Xbox 360 title Gears of War in 2006.
