Latest UK All Formats Charts - Grand Theft Auto IV Passes 1 Million Mark

While having experienced a significant 77% drop in sales, Grand Theft Auto IV still refused to give up on its top spot in the UK All Formats Charts this week.

This pushed the hugely popular and critically acclaimed Rockstar title over the one million mark in the UK, and apparently widened the gap between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, in Microsoft’s favour.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is still doing nicely as well, claiming the eight spot, closely followed by Mario Kart Wii and Brain Training.

360 GTA IV Outselling PS3 By 2-1?

Microsoft says that the Xbox 360 version of of Grand Theft Auto IV is outselling the PlayStation 3 version by a significant margin in the US, however Sony now questions these claims.

“What we’ve heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one,” said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360.

Without giving away too many details, a representative from Sony Computer Entertainment America questions this, stating that Microsoft’s 2-1 ratio “doesn’t line up” with what Sony is hearing from retailers.

Analysts Underestimate GTA IV Sales

Take Two CEO Ben Feder has stated that initial analyst predictions for GTA IV sales don’t do the title’s true retail potential justice.

Feder told Reuters: “Our expectations are very high, higher than analysts give the game credit for. All the analysts had a sales number, give or take, and I think we will be on the upside of that rather than the downside.”

Analysts have been predicting that the game will generate around $400 million in first week sales alone, outclassing last year’s Halo 3 by $100 million.

No XBLA Game This Week

Microsoft has confirmed that there will be no new Xbox LIVE Arcade releases this week, due to the release of the game you should be playing or dreaming about right now, Grand Theft Auto IV.

Major Nelson commented that “We definitely understand the complaints about the lack of XBLA releases this week.”

“There are certainly people who won’t be playing GTA IV, and would want to see an alternative on the Arcade, but to be fair, any game released this week will not get a fair chance to reach everyone who the publisher might want to reach.”
