During Blogger’s Lunch today at GDC, some new interesting information regarding GTA IV downloadable content was revealed.
It’s not a whole lot, but it might answer a few questions.
This morning Square Enix’s Research & Development Manager Taku Murata revealed that his company’s game engine has been renamed from the White Engine to Crystal Tools.
Murata-san announced this during his lecture at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and stated that the Crystal Tools engine will be used by Square for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC development.
He also vaguely hinted that it could be used for Wii titles in the future.
If you ever completed Portal, you probably noticed the beautifully composed song that played during the end credits.
Now developer Harmonix has decided to team up with Valve to bring you the song to the wonderful instrumental game Rock Band. The song was apparently demonstrated at a GDC08 after-party as a special preview for those lucky enough to be there.

Microsoft keynote speaker at GDC, John Schappert, claimed that the Xbox 360 has now sold more than 18 million units worldwide.
In an interview with EuroGamer, MS’ Corporate VP of LIVE stated: “I think that we’ve sold 18 million, the last time I’ve checked. 18 million hardware units worldwide.”

BioShock creator Kevin Levine spoke today at GDC08, and stated that gamers don’t actually care about storylines in their videogames.
“The bad news for storytellers is that nobody cares about your stupid story,” Levine told his audience.

According to Joystiq, Sony has confirmed that they are now working on a new version of the PlayStation Portable store, which unlike the current one, will not require you to access the store via a PC.
The company stated that in the future, PSP owners will be able to download games and content directly into their precious handheld.
No release date has been revealed so far.
Good or bad news, you decide: Microsoft has announced that downloadable content for Rockstar’s upcoming title Grand Theft Auto IV will not arrive on Xbox LIVE until Autumn.
The game is set to release on Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 on April 29th this year.
At GDC yesterday, Running With Scissors revealed that their upcoming title Postal III will be released for PC and Xbox 360 in Q2 2009. They also mentioned that they are seriously considering a PlayStation 2 version as well.

Today at GDC08, (where else!) Microsoft announced some of the new titles scheduled for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade this spring and summer.
Briad - Developed by Jonathan Blow, this game allows you to bend and manipulate the rules of time.
Castle Crashers - An RPG where up to four players can slash their way through beautiful hand-drawn landscapes.
Defense Grid: The Awakening - The ultimate tower-defense experience, designed for Xbox LIVE Arcade.
Go! Go! Break Steady - A combination of music and break dancing makes this a very interesting title.

You’ve probably heard it already, Gears of War 2 has been confirmed at the Game Developers Conference, and is coming November this year.
Now Epic Games has also revealed that a limited edition (with a black cover) of the game will also be available at launch, at the suggested retail price $69.99.
You can even pre-order one at Amazon.
Xbox 360 fans rejoice, here’s even more awesomeness from the Game Developer Conference, this time a brand new Ninja Gaiden 2 gamplay video.
From GDC08 comes six brand new screenshots from Lionhead Studios’ upcoming RPG Fable 2.
Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux also revealed that co-op gameplay will be a big part of Fable 2. He mentioned that players can drop into each other’s games at any time to help a friend out.

Turbine announced today that it has made an agreement with Tolkien Enterprises to extend its license to make new MMORPGs based on The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien.
The Lord of The Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is Turbine’s latest MMORPG, and is already available across North America, Australia, Europe, New Zealand and Japan.

Today at the Game Developers Conference 2008, Logitech revealed the official Wheel of Gran Turismo, for Sony’s PlayStation 3.
The wheel, named Logitech Driving Force GT, has been crafted for use in Polyphony Digital’s upcoming Gran Turismo 5, and will be available in Europe on March 28th, and April 17th in North America.
Suggested retail price is US $149.99.
Square Enix today announced that the Vanillaware developed RPG Odin Sphere is set to release in Europe and UK on March 14th this year.
The game is Vanillaware’s first title since GrimGrimoire and features beautiful 2D hand-drawn characters and a soundtrack by Final Fantasy XII’s composer Hitoshi Sakimoto.
From the Game Developers Conference comes what appears to be a real genuine screenshot of In-game XBM, although it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt as there has been no confirmation yet.
